There's a local Summer Exhibition (carnival) in Toronto called the CNE, there's a booth in their Arts Center that does these type of mosaics. I do recall seeing a Black Lotus done like this before.

not really a new idea.....all you really need is a Photo Mosiac software package and the time and effort to input and process that many different images.

But still it looks nice =)
