I just picked up my pack of these from the local store. I think that they said they received either 6 or 8 of them to give away, 1 per box of Shards (as Gryfalia mentioned at his store too) What do these go for? I'm torn between opening it and playing with them, and just saving or selling the sealed...

I think you are reading to much into it. The height adjustment is a quite normal variant that I have seen both within sets and across sets. Its been a while, but I seem to remember finding that the fastest way to separate 4th edition cards from 5th edition cards was by the height of the bottom text...

Out of the huge lot I just picked up... only 3 more cards, but they were all rare :) Jayemdae Tomb, Sorceress Queen, and Reverse Damage. I'm almost certain this is a completely uniquely printed set. Unless Carta Mundi switched to completely different backing ink, slightly different front ink, AND re...

This evening I purchased a good deal of spare 4th from a friend (>700 random cards) and out of all of them only ONE was an "orange" 4th, and it was merely a beat up Alabaster Potion. Two cards in the group were alternate fourth, but just random commons. Later this weekend I'll be picking up another ...

In the interest of providing more examples (This time blue cards) I tried to find my BEST condition cards (but ones that I had that are identical across the three versions) I had a few cards that are almost perfectly mint in orange but no counterparts to them in Alternate at all to compare. Here is ...

I doubt the "orange" cards came out of US Playing Card Company. I, too, believe that they are Carta Mundi printed. Here is an extreme close up comparing the fronts and backs of the three cards in normal light to better illustrate printing. So think of these cards as shade variations, although only ...

pp, thanks! Yes, I just rechecked my stack of "orange" to my regular and alternate stacks and you are correct... the "orange" cards ALL have a slightly lower copyright line. EDIT: This is actually true for everything except the color template and the artwork. If you look at the title, casting cost, ...

Here you guys, I managed to get normal 4th, "orange" 4th, and alternate 4th versions of the same two cards (Hill Giant and Scryb Sprites) to show you all a good comparison. Linked are higher res versions I put on Flickr. However, if anyone would like the highest res that I have (9mb files) I can ema...

With a better black-light today, I was able to reach more defined conclusions. Comparing a normal 4th edition, "alternate 4th" and "orange 4th": Backs: -Normal: Little glow under blacklight, focused on blues / whites -"Alternate 4th": Darker top right portion of "a" of "Magic", full bodied brownish-...

Discovery of 3rd Version of 4th Edition

(Forgive me if this is explained elsewhere, AFAIK my post is the first mention and documentation of this.) I was recently running through all my 4th edition duplicates (a few thousand) with a black light to try to quickly pull out any "Alternate 4th" cards and start working on a formal collection of...

I am interested in any cards that are in NM- or better condition, that other members have not already claimed / made deals for. I would only like 1 copy of each unique card, as I would like to start collecting this set.

Absolutely :)

The numbers I pulled from the mtgsalvationwiki and crystalkeep.com

(mtgsalvation had the official numbers, and sources for them at the bottom and crystal keep confirmed those numbers, and then provided the estimates that I listed (nonbold numbers)

MTG Print Runs (By Sets)

I thought it would be interesting to try to tap the resources in these forums to aggregate information about print runs of sets. Here goes what I have so far. I'm also interested in figuring out what % of each print run is in each language that the set is offered in. I've already filled in all of th...
