Nice one, missing in my collection. I do need a HQ scan for the website (It's the 006).

Very nice, you don't need all four of them though...

I'm going to guess the top 2 were upgrades of the bottom 2.

Yes and no. I had a little extra cash laying around so I bought the Alpha one on the bottom.

A solid investment for sure.

Just a quick question regarding slabbed cards, we have something similar for coins. MS70 is the top grade for a coin. Most new coins that are uncirculated would get MS69, MS68 is about as low as you would go for 'investment grade'.

Anything lower than that would generally be cracked out of the slab and sold raw.

What would be the lowest grade for investing in Magic cards?

In my opinion, everything under BGS 8.5 isn't worth it, but some people may disagree.

PSA 8 is the lowest many people will go.

For me BGS 8.5+ sounds also right.

Cheers.

I don't yet own any of the power 9 and this is something I should really look at as the trickle of older sealed product dries up.

For Alpha you'll get a small premium over most raw cards for PSA/BGS 8 or 8.5 but the real bump in price starts with 9's and goes up substantially for BGS 9.5 / PSA 10's.

Margins seem to be much tighter on Beta and other sets where you need to get 9.5/10 to see the decent jump in price.

100% agree Len. With the prices on Alpha junk rares in BGS 9.5 hovering around $700+ this only seems to be the beginning for Alpha. Prices are based on the population of each card for the grade obviously. Beta will soon follow but certain cards in Alpha are horrible to find centered and will command some crazy premiums such as Nightmare, Personal Incarnation, Stone Rain and a many others. Beta Birds is in the same boat but will not command the prices of most higher end Alpha BGS 9.5's.
