Stop ripping your Moxes!

Post by BillBo » Sun Jul 02, 2017 3:47 am

This is a tidbit about authenticating cards. Apologies if it's old news. It was new to me (someone mentioned it on fb); so I figured I should give it a go and share it here.

The tongue-in-cheek recommendation has always been to tear the card whose authenticity you doubt into pieces so that you can see the blue layer (well, or not). This inexpensive magnifying glass/hand-held microscope
https://www.amazon.com/Active-AEM100-Mi ... B004ATVHB8
lets you actually see the blue layer (well, or not, my German Sol Ring seems to be fake ](*,) ).
I collect land cards, just that.

You can find also a black layer with some old MTG Editions or Expansions (especially from cards Made by Shepard Poorman).

Newer Chinese fakes also have the layer.

The layer may or may not be blue on the Chinese fakes. A lot of them are black instead. Typically the blue ones are a little different color of blue, sort of purplish.
