Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?  That's got to be one of the coolest misprints I've ever seen.

Judging from the bid history, I would say that there could be a bid war starting over this.  :D :D :D

Actually yes I have seen this type of misprint before (on eBay).  No I don't recall what the auction number is or what it closed at, as I do not do misprints myself.  The auction I saw before was for an island with the guru symbol in the same spot.  Makes me wonder if a whole sheet of guru got printed in this weird way.

Anyone know what the layout was for Guru print sheets?  Can we expect to see only islands in this fashion or were all 5 lands printed on one sheet so other land types with this misprint should exist?

That's probably what happened...the sheet got put in upside-down.  There probably is an entire sheet like this out there.  The stamp would be in the right place if it had been right-side up.

This sort of thing seems to happen with every single stamped card - all the pre-release cards too.

I had my eye on this, but I'm sure it's going to close crazy-high!

such thoughts wouldn't be unprecidented.  for example, it is generally believed that the more increadable error coins are made (by us mint employees) intentionally.

Yeah, I believe that.  On the news one day, I saw that an employee at the local mint (here in Philadelphia), was fired for doing just that.
