fake foil filler cards

Post by AXIOS » Thu Nov 20, 2003 2:14 am

can this be real. or is  this person very handy with acetone?

He says you can even see the "gold 7" because it was supposed to be a rare.

My impression of these is that too many of them are showing up on ebay these days to be legit. I'm considering starting a dutch auction of 500 of them for $1 a piece just to kill the hype :P

This is rediculous and I hate seeing people waste their money on garbage

especially with all the foil fillers, i don't believe anymore that they are for real, they are homemade.

Every week a foil filler shows up at ebay.

bout the above auction, on this card there is also a faint 7 visible.

that CAN'T be a filler!

I think the faint 7 proves that someone manufactured this card.  Acetoned the card, and left some of the 7.

It would be amusing to sell off a few hundred fake foil fillers to drop the value; just have to make sure you don't inadvertantly make some random foil common a rarity!

Or better yet, make them and spoon feed them to people making lots of money in the wake.  Kind of like DeBeers and diamonds.

Pre nemesis and pro nemesis foils differ from each other. Which ones would be best to Acetone with. Or would they be the same.

It is hard to believe that there are people who collect stuff like this that are not members here.  That said, I think we do a good job of debunking these crap auctions.  Maybe they will dry up and go away.

EDIT: You know, it was interesting.  I went to Dan Bock's table not long ago and he told me that it is so hard to find real filler cards that are plain both front and back because of all the fakes.

He showed me several of his pages in his rarities binder that had a real rarity in the center of the page but it was surounded by fake two sided fillers that have been erased.  This kind of thing makes me shy away from buying fillers for fear of buying a fake.  Any thoughts on the best way to detect a real one for each of the types of fillers?  Are there different things to look for on different fillers to make sure?  LMK
