Cards that smell

Post by Celebrindor » Wed Mar 02, 2005 6:39 pm

I recently obtained a large number of cards that would be mint, except for the fact that they reek of cigarette smoke.  Does anyone have any experience making cards *not* smell?  For example, I was thinking of leaving some of the cards near an open window (when it gets a bit warmer), and hoping they air out (out of direct sunlight of course).  Does anyone know if something like this would work, or are the cards permanently ruined?

Put them in a well sealed box, like a rubbermaid container or the refridgerator, along with a small box of baking soda. Let it sit for a few days or until the smell is significantly gone.

I once bought a collection that smelled of pot and incense ;)

This could become a runaway thread. What smells have you found on your cards? :)

The only weird smell I have found is tobacco.  I just let the cards air out for a week or month or two.  If the card is good, and has the tarry grime on the edges, I just clean it up with one of those citrus-smelling cleaners.  After a while the smells, both good and bad, are completely gone.
Where have all the Magic sticker sets gone?

I have enough cards to stack them all up, and commit suicide off the top!
