3D card #2

Post by l0qii » Sun Feb 27, 2005 10:50 pm

For my second run at a 3D cards I did Annul. I used matte board this time for spacers. I think it turned out better than the Chaos Charm. It's 6 layers. I still didn't bother to raise/lower the textbox though. Any feedback is appreciated.

Its very, very cool.  Now, if I understand correctly, the "original" 3D cards just had flat layers, but you actually tilted some of the layers, right?

Vast improvement.  Beautiful job on the artwork  I am glad you took my advice regarding shaping the artwork.  Your shaping has taken 3-D cards to a whole new level.  Cudos for moving this M:TG art genre forward.  Came out great.  I do want to point out one last point I can see as a point of improvement.  The card edges could get damaged not being supported as well as they could.  By this I mean have the space material extend out to the edges of the card.  Ben Cordell normally did not do this in his card creations, but I asked him to do it for the Dakmor he did for me, which he did.  So from the side mine looks solid like a stack of cards, while yours has the radiator look to it, which you can see on the 3rd pic easily.

Thanks! I really value all your opinions, especially from those of you who have seen other 3D cards in person. I considered extending the spacers all the way to the edge, but I honestly like the radiator look better. And as for it being too fragile, well the artwork itself is already far more fragile than the edges are. I think as long as it is well taken care of, there is no additional risk leaving it the way it is. Of course I'd do whatever a buyer requested though.

I plan on doing another card this week. I'll post pictures when it's done.

What card are you doing next?

As far as protection goes, I keep mine stored in a plastic case with a top slip cover.

I don't know. I'm still looking through my collection to find something cool that I have 6-8 of to spare.

Requests are free!
But if you want to own it when I'm done, then it'll will cost you ;)

If you have a particular card in mind, PM me. If it's one I think I can do a good job on, we can discuss it.

Well now, get your 20 or Mana cards done, then build the remainder of your deck.  Take it out to a tournament, and see if they will allow you to play the deck or not!   :D

Can someone post some links to pics of additional examples of this artform?  This is the first I have ever seen or heard of 3-D magic cards and I am quite interested in seeing more of these beautiful works of art!

Thanks
Aleks
