Are they real or can they be forged?

I think the real question is, "are THESE real"?

heh!

Really though, I have seen one before many years ago.  So, I would say real.

Well from the scan it looks real enough. The thing I find suspicious is that the black in the art and the black used for text are printed at 2 different times, possibly on 2 different printers entirely. This is how you can end up with shifted text on a card without shifted black in the art (Gaea's Touch) and also why alpha/beta cards have 2 borders. For both to be completely out of black ink at the same time seems very unlikely.

What makes you think it's done on separate printers as opposed to having two printing plates stamp a sheet successively in the same machine?

Nothing really, except probability. All the printers I've seen in my years going to a school with a large printing dept and also working for 18 months at Xerox, I have never seen a printer with 2 black drums. They either have the 4 color CMYK setup, or just black. Also, since it's common to see just the text offset on a card it leads me to believe that sheets are moved before text is applied.  However five color presses do exist, so it's entirely possible they're done all on one machine.

Have you considered the possibility that this could also be Alternate 4th?

That is a distinct possibility.  I would say its impossible to say without more/better scans or holding the card, but some of the boxes and lines seem a bit off.
