Value of Miscut Revised Duals

Post by braves54321 » Thu May 05, 2005 5:07 am

Ok, I have a revised underground sea, and here are some scans:

Front
Back

As you can see it has a big crease.

I have a friend that has the following tundra:
Front
Back

The only thing the scans don't show is some little dents in the card near the middle, like they were poked by something a bit bigger than a needle, but they didn't go all the way through.

These are the only duals I have ever seen like this. Does anyone know how much roughly they may be worth? Also, are these more common than I think?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I don't think these are extremely worthy, but still interesting:

a) The Underground Sea shows a very common type of miscut (i.e. one border bigger than the other), especially in Revised. It is still a VERY sought after card for play, but certainly the huge crease hinders its legality... some people here in Italy would take it for $10-15 nonetheless (against $25-30 for NM)

b) The Tundra is rather interesting in my opinion. It is miscut enough to show a second card, and actually looking at the back it turns out it is not a second card but the edge of a sheet (white showing). This miscut is not too uncommon, but certainly rarer than the other kind. I would place this card somewhat higher than a normal Tundra, maybe at about $25-30 even.

Actually, I might be interested in the Tundra myself  ;D

I have a Tropical island, Bayou, & BoP that may have been from the same (or similar) sheet miscut. I paid $15 on each of the 3, which at that time was about 1 1/2 times the amount they were normally worth.

Nice find, I'd suggest playing w/ them for the heck of it....

You can't play with these, they are white bordered.

I believe Samite_Healer means the Tundra shows white along the upper edge on the back, so it's easily recognizable from other cards.

Actually, it depends on the judge you ask, some are cooperative in letting you use cards that show all necessary info, assuming you use opaque sleeves. I often times bring a handfull of misprints to judges to get the okay to play them (I unknowingly spent a while doing this to MCM once).

So, grab some dark sleeves, & have at it I say!

Yeah, true enough.  But what Enrico means is that the white on the back makes it a 'marked' card.

Exactly,

it would be like playing with a CE Black Lotus

Oh I understand. But the difference is that no judge will allow you to play w/ a CE card, but many see miscuts & errors as "well, it came out of a pack that way", and allow you to use them as long as the sleeves hide the error.

I think he was just trying to be funny... "white-bordered = not Beta."

There's no question the Tundra is play-legal, but the crease in the Sea makes it questionable. It looks like you'd be able to feel that through a sleeve.

Seconded. I'd allow the Tundra, but not that horridly-abused Sea.

I wouldn't pay more than five bucks for that Sea... but I'd offer your friend $15 for that Tundra in a bloody second if he's interested.
Bah,
