The seller has entered an absurd buy-it-now price.

I have the following same proofs for sale at the following, normal prices, to whoever is interested:

I know this question has come up before, but isn't there no way of telling the diffrence between an alpha or beta proof, or even a collector's edition proof? They're all the same right?

The truth is that there is no such thing as Alpha or Beta proofs, only CE proofs. But everyone name them either Alpha / Beta, CE or a mix of the three words.

I think there was only one set of proofs made for all three sets... Oh and sorry for going a bit off topic, but were any unlimited artist proofs ever printed?
I have never seen one...

EDIT: lol, eric beat me to it :P

Eric.
???

i asked dan frazier ones and he said that there were only beta proofs.
alpha and CE didn't had proofs.

And why would they make proofs for a set like CE?

I believe they are assumed to be CE proofs, because they are square cut.
I, the undersigned, do hereby agree to all stipulations as discussed above. Signed, .............

Actually, the question I would have, is why would there be Beta proofs and not Alpha proofs.  The artwork for Alpha and Beta are the same, with a few exceptions (correcting mana cost and such), so, since Alpha comes out before Beta, I would assume it to be logical that Alpha would have the proofs, and the only Beta proofs would be for the revised cards.
Does this then mean that there are proofs for Unlimited (excepting Plateau) Revised, 4th and all the other base sets that contain cards from pre-existing expansion sets and the originals?  Or is there only normally one proof done, unless the artwork or something else is changed on the card?

As I mentioned before, everyone calls them differently but all words mean the same set of proofs.

There is one set of proofs, English, BB, Square Corner, from the Beta set.

Some call them Alpha because they are the first proofs,
Some call them Beta because the set is Beta (and because they don't like the idea of CE proofs)
Some call them CE because they are Square Corner

That's all.

To my mind, "Alpha proofs" is the least correct label between the three possible mainly because all proofs for bugged cards in Alpha, corrected in Beta, have the correct text, casting cost, etc.
Moreover, there are Proofs for the Volcanic Island and CoP:Black, so the proofs relate more to Beta and CE than to Alpha.

This is just my 0.02, it does not change anything at the end of day.
Does this then mean that there are proofs for Unlimited (excepting Plateau) Revised, 4th and all the other base sets that contain cards from pre-existing expansion sets and the originals?  Or is there only normally one proof done, unless the artwork or something else is changed on the card?
I have very incomplete information.

However, several proofs exist for the same art:
- English, French and Italian Ice Age Artist proofs
- 4th BB Japanese is another example

I think they started to make systematic proof of base sets at 6th edition.

:)

That's some really cheap prices it seems, I just checked the auction and it has passed the $3,000 mark  :o
And the silly seller has an even higher reserve, this is going to be amusing to watch. You should probably hold on to your proofs eric ;)

This seller seems to me like he tries to fool everyone.
As Dan Frazier sales the whole set of his Beta proofs (i.e. 38 cards including Berserk, 5 Moxen, etc.) for around $850 (depends on currency exchange rate for me ;)), I do believe my prices are correct.

On the other hand, last week a proof of a Mox Jet was buy-it-nowed for $300 ...

Regards,
eric.

What do people make of this auction? The "Aspect of Wolf" proof has alpha cuts, but a blank white back. Wasn't it said there was only one set of A/B/CE proofs, and they were square cut?

I saw the auction and just assumed that the card had the corners trimmed.  It was a common thing to do, and in a sleeve it could certainly be used in casual play.
Where have all the Magic sticker sets gone?

I have a friend who has a deck of all R. Guay art cards, and when he built it he had trouble finding defense of the Heart for cheap...so he bought several from Rebecca at Gen con and now plays with 'em in our casual play games.

I don't know why anyone would play with aspect of wolf though...
