Some have all the luck & then waste it

Post by themike314 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 6:35 am

At my local shop's Ravnica release on Friday, one player opened a foil Watery Grave from his sealed-deck product.

Later that night, he won 1 Ravnica booster pack. His rare? A foil Birds of Paradise.

He ended up trading them both in to the shop for a booster box. He was happy, having only spent $20 (sealed deck entry fee).

I was amazed at his luck, and his willingness to part with them so soon. How much more could he have gotten had he waited for better deals to present themselves? (The shop sells boxes for $80.)

I had offered him about $100 in high dollar Type 2 cards (Birds, Kokushos, Jittes, etc. - all of which he was lacking), but he turned me down.

I guess my question is: Why would someone turn down items of established value for a chance at something else?

If he was a kid, then there is your complete and final answer. If not, then he like opening boosters, but is a stupid moron. Or he wants to get all the commons, many uncommons, and is a moron.

Because he can draft, tonight, with that box of product.

That's assuming he's a 'player'.

because everyone does not think the way you do.

your real concern seems to be: why couldn't i benefit from his good fortune?

think about it.

Three possibilities:

1) He's a kid, and "high-dollar Type 2 cards" doesn't mean anything to him.

2) He's a person that would rather open 540 cards rather than recieve 10.

3) 1 box = 12 draft sets
