Wizards is raising the price of boosters

Post by blackfire100 » Thu Dec 18, 2003 1:46 am

On MTGnews today I saw something I wished never to see again... Wizards is raising the price of boosters and the like! What are they doing?

Boosters: $3.69, up from $3.29
Tournament decks: $11.29, up from $9.99
Theme decks: $11.29, up from $9.99

This will come into effect starting with Darksteel. :'(

i'm glad i stopped buying boosters since the new card look (legions was probably the very last set i bought a booster(box) from)

i really hate the new look.

when they put the old look back on the cards, then i'm thinking of buying a booster.

until then.......

I buy my boosters online.  If I buy in bulk, I can get packs for as low as $1.80.  I guess this means I'll be paying $2.00 now.

I never buy product from a retail store.  Online is the way to go.   ;D

Ebay is the way for me to buy too now.  When a new set is coming out, I email a few sellers, and try to get costs/quotes to buy one of each Red and Land card, pre-release card, and for base sets, the foil base lands.  I do not need, nor want, any other cards anymore.
So its not worth buying in stores or buying packs anymore.

Especially too, when I was finding that I could buy a complete set of cards for about $80 online, and sell all the rares from the other colors for about $70 - then I can keep all the Red and Land cards for about a cost of $10!!

4 Euros is indeed the normal, accepted price for a booster in a shop. Unfortunately, that is the equivalent of $4.97 !! (Today 1$ = €0,805064)

It's not like this is the first time they've increased prices. I believe the original price of a booster pack 10 years ago was $2.45, and a starter was $7.99. That's just how inflation works. It sucks indeed. But I also haven't bought a pack from a store in a long long time. I buy boxes online, or I just buy singles I want. In the long run it saves me a lot of money.

Ackk!!!  Now I'll be paying over $60 for my booster boxes now! ($63-$64 to be exact)  12.1% price hike.

I wonder if this will boost pre-release entrance fees by a buck or 2?

Watch; through some twisted Wizard's logic, it will raise constructed tourney fees as well.  I shall never again shell out $25 for a constructed event ... at a convention center where you have to pay to park!

Nope.  My brother-in-law gets them to me at dealer cost.  He owns a store.
