i think the best rule of thumb for taboo subjects is...  don't discuss that which someone may have invested their lives in.  i mean, someone debating child rearing and who has children isn't just debating - it's as if they're being forced to justify their actions.  all in all, if someone feels as if they're being attacked, personally, they're going to attack you.

Not only was I joking, but I have punished my kids when they were younger for bending or slobering on my cards.  Furthermore, I am not one to wait for the stove to teach my kids not to touch it when it is hot.  I was spanked when I was a kid, my father was spanked, and so on, and so on.  If you are too chicken to properly discipline your kids when they need it because corporal punishment is no longer socially accepted, then be my guest, and add to the teen crime rate.  I refuse to walk on egg shells about spanking, here or anywhere else.  If you want to strike a nerve with me, feel free, but this thread will be much more passionate that my first argument here.

To all of you, thank you for your congrats.  My wife and I enjoy seeing how many pleasent people are here.

Uh, so was i. And for that reason, i wouldnt do it to my kids. Just a personal opinion.

Although you would proabably be a nice guy if we lived in the, oh, 1920's?

wow, we have uncovered the third topic not to be discussed at the library, child raising practices.

so...
no religion
no politics
no child-raising
I enjoy beating children with bibles while watching CSPAN.   :P  Consider it a hobby.

But seriously, how is it you manage to be online many hours a day with a new born baby, a wife and five other kids?  This all seems very odd to me.  Your recent post history would lend people to believe you to be a 14 year old with no friends.  However, I've been wrong before.

Funny, BFK, I would love to be 14 again.  Not a care in the world.  But, no.  I have a home business and am constantly on the computer.  If you must know.   ::) ::)

My wife is a traditional woman (thank God).  I am free to conduct my business, unimcumbered by screeming kids.  Out of almost 9 years of being a father, I am proud to say I have changed only 2 diapers out of now, 6 kids.  I get to close the door to my office, turn up the radio, and melt my cares away by working on the internet, playing starcraft, and chatting on forums such as this one.  When it is time to be a dad again, I gather up the gaggle and go to the park, Mall of America, or have supersoaker fights.

Ah, the joys of being your own boss.
Ah, the joys of having a submissive/traditional wife.
Ah, the joys of cable modem.
Ah, the joys of raising "mini me's"

MUUU HAAA HAAA HAAA (maniacle laughter)

Mr. C: that is the best compliment I have had in a long time.  I can never tell which I like the best.

The 1920's, 1950's, or 1800's.  In fact, I love so much about those times that I think the only thing that holds me from going into a time machine right now and leaving this socialist sespool, is Magic the Gathering. lmao. i think there are certain virtues to having non-submisive / non-traditional wives, as well.  whether or not those virtues outweigh the virtues of a traditional wife is, i suppose, in the eyes of the beholder.

Wow, I love it when someone suprizes me.  I have no choice but to respect you and the way you stated your thoughts.  I love to be in a state of mutual respect with someone who may disagree with me.  Thank you.

Congrats on the new baby.  My first is 15 months old now, so I am still somewhat in the new parent stage.

I'm surprised that you say you've only changed 2 diapers out of 6 kids.  I've been involved in just about every aspect of my baby's life since he was born.  In fact, since he was born by a c-section, I was in the operating room and held him before my wife did.  I've loved every minute of it so far, including changing dirty diapers.  Its just another opportunity to be closer to him.  I'm sure I'll treasure those moments forever.

Aleks
