My Chance to Brag, Seraph Artwork

Post by MOT » Mon May 24, 2004 3:04 am

I don't usually have too much to brag about, but I get a chance every now and then.

Christopher Rush was at our Pre-Release in Kansas City.  I own his orginal artwork of the IA Seraph, so I took it down to have him personalize the back.  I orginally bought the artwork off from Ebay.  The model for the painting was selling the artwork and I had her personalize the back.

I also had Chris sign my Archangel T-shirt and a bunch of cards as well.  The T-Shirts were given away to US Military personnel back when WOTC was promoting Magic in the military by giving away product for the troops to have something to do.   I'm not sure, but I think this was around the time of the Desert Storm operations.

He had a very interesting anecdote about creating the artwork for the Archangel.  His original sketch had the Archangel wearing a type of headress with a facemask and the trailers from the headdress were the only things covering strategic parts of her body.  The sketch was approved, but when he submitted the final artwork, WOTC apparently thought it was too racy.  Chris had to redo the artwork and the facemask was lost, body armor added, and the big flowing headress trailers became flowing hair instead.

Just thought I'd post some pictures.  Here's the link to my meager home page.

My decks at the PR sucked, but it was really cool meeting Christopher Rush.  This is the first time they have brought an artist.

Hello Tom!

Great story and very nice pics!! Clearly deserving a small bragging post!

And it's also interesting to put actual figures on famous "virtual friends" and artists :)

Take care,
Eric.
