Most prized M:TG item

Post by mintcollector » Fri Nov 07, 2003 2:30 am

What is everyone's most prized M:TG item?

Personally I would have to say my mint Beta Lotus due to it's value.

Mine is either this ad which is worthless, but I love it, and it's extremely rare.

or my first deck, which I still have, which is a goblin deck, all black bordered, no cards newer than FE, no sleeves, and I still keep it in an old beta starter box. I like it because it's already beat up, so I don't have to worry about keeping it looking nice. I can pull it out and shuffle it, and watch people start to whimper :)  The most valuable card in this deck is a beta fork.

Well, I'd like to say my FNM Sparksmith since it was the first (and only) time I've ever won a sanctioned tournament.

Or perhaps my 4 Coalition Victories, with tally marks for each time I win with them.  Fun times.

But I'd have to say that my favorite card in my collection is this card.  It was contributed by one of my friends as part of the prize from the reject rare draft my we did after Mark Gottlieb's article on the format.  One of the best times I've had with this game.  By the way, the card is a Defiling Tears.

hrmm... I Like the "serra elemental" misprint. It's not the most prized. But in terms of card numbers, not too much more common than a lotus in terms of numbers.

I would also like to see misprints on things like Vanguard Cards or 6x9... imagine one of those with 2 halves of different cards on it!!

Maybe a card with 2 of the magic backs :-)

My prized Magic posessions (in no particular order):
  • An Alpha rulebook signed by Richard Garfield
  • A Beta Underground Sea I opened as part of an all-Beta booster draft at PT NY '99. I didn't win, but it was FUN and we each got to keep one card. There's a whole other story of how I got into the draft for free :).
  • A RV Lightning Bolt signed by all my buddies from my old card hang-out (The Gamer's Inn). It got passed around among us as a prize for defeating the previous holder of it. I'm just waiting until one of them wants to challenge me for it again :).
  • Nearly every badge from any event I've ever judged.

I have a bunch of oddball stuff. I'm collecting 1 of every card, & am almost done. That is a prized posession because of the work involved, I guess.

But, to narrow it down, I own an Alpha playtest/ LD/ gamma card deck.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/258

That link explains it, & I own the bottom 2 cards in the article. Also included in the deck are an Ancestral Recall, & Starburst- a red Time Walk. It says "opponent loses their next turn". There's a Goblin card w/ a zany photocopy of Garfield's face too. Other funny & amusing cards. And lastly, I collect Frozen Shades, & there is one in that deck....a big selling point.

I started asking questions online about it a while back, & was referred to this Forum, that's how I ended up here.

I'd love to have a good scan of that, along with the issue and page number it apeared on. I'm sure both versions were printed around the same time?

I guess my most prized items would be:

- My Ornithopter Collection (almost 1000)
- Uncut Arena Sheet (Framed and On My Wall)
- My Collection of about 1/2 of the existing 6x9's
- Then value wise what little P9 I own as it's more then alot of people around here.

l0qii:  You are in luck.  I picked up the same Duelist Ralph is speaking of in a magazine lot while trying to finish my collection of Scrye magazines.  I would be willing to send it to you for free if you want.  Just drop me an email with your mailing address and I'll sent it to you free of charge.  I'm at work and not by my mags, so I don't recall the issue number.  I think it might be #2 though.

mintcollector: Excellent memory, mintcollector! I have looked it up and the advertisement is indeed in issue #2.

l0qii: Since mintcollector is so nice to send you the magazine for free, do you still need a scan of the advertisement?

My Chinese Portal Wrath of God (close second: My German Portal Wrath of God).

I've always had a thing for asian cards.

Have some old Pro Tour judge badges hanging around somewhere..;-)

Ralph: The comic was just memorable, plus I have very few Duelists.
