Any Judges on the forums?

Post by Celebrindor » Thu Aug 26, 2004 6:25 pm

I was wondering if any of the Forum members were DCI judges?  I need to get ready to take the exam on Sept. 19th (the second day of the ChK Prerelease).  I took it at the Fifth Dawn prerelease, but I did not pass - The judge said I had been playing "too long" - all the questions I answered incorrectly would have been right several years (and rules changes) ago.

I know judges do read this as I have spoken with them before on the site.  I don't believe any activate members are active judges though.  By active I mean someone who posts here regularly.  I could be wrong though.

Gzeiger is a judge, I believe.  Don't know how active he is, though...

I was the same way with WizKids.  They left a bad taste in my mouth.  I used to be head Warlord here in Chicago and helped organize all their bigger events for staff needs.  I know exactly how you feel.  It's a thankless job at best.

I don't know about the judge's in your area, but around here the judges are more like tyrants - they don't put up with crap from anyone.

In my case, it was the store I worked the Tourneys for.  They thought everyone should be treated like a winner and rules were guidelines of how players could play.

They don't host events any more.   ;D

At our tournaments, there are usually 600+ people, and a dozen or less judges, so...

Hey Van,
Send me a tyrant Level 3 or 4 judge.
The person who runs the large pre-re's has some incompetent fools working under him.
When you see Onslaught cards in a 5th Dawn sealed and the judges don't do anything, you have a tendency to be ticked off.
I'd much rather deal with some one who will enforce the rules, than some kid that got the job by riding a lazy judges coattails.
Rampant cheating with no enforcement at 5th Dawn pre-re and Regionals - Pomona,California.
Complaints were ignored. They guy who ran it was more interested in overcharging sealeds and drafts.

BTW: Make sure you know the current ruling(s) on Humilty and it's effect, or lack of.
Begin the day with a friendly voice...

thanks for the tip.

I'd hate to go to tournaments there.  Here, the judges all carry megaphones, and everything is organized from laptops at the front table.

I tested under Dorian Anders at the 5th Dawn Pre-release.  John Carter was there, but he wasnt administrating the test.
