This seems to be a good brainstorming session.
Ideas
Ideas about the ideas.
A concern I would have would be that mods are required to closely scan all messages or at least rely on members to report anyone breaking the rules.
I would certainly be willing to pay an annual membership as the board is a very valuable source of information and fellowship.
Doymecca, I think it is quite a leap from this site, with membership fees, to MOTL, however I can see the possibility.
The difference would be that, like now, members would not be accepted "just because they can pay the fee" but through recommendations and the special Alexis touch.
In any case, I think it is a worthy idea to consider.

Argh - i hate the spam account creators.
I am the forum moderator for a popular band. I went on a 2 week vacation once and a series of spam bots decided that was the time to hit the forums hard. I had 42,000 fake accounts waiting to be activated by the time I came home.
I spent many, many, many hours going through them and deleting them - and adding their email domain to the "blocked" emails list.
Remember - the asterisk is your friend! To block everyone from, say, @cialis.com - add *@cialis.com. Then no one from that email group can ever try to make an account in the future.
(Yes, you probably already know all this. But if you didn't - I hope this helps!)
(And yes, it sort of depends on how the forums are set up - but I believe you have it set up that you have to personally activate accounts. Which is exactly how I have the band's forums set up.)
Oh - and most importantly - Glad you are back!
