You're probably right.

The seller is probably not making any money compared to his first investment. But times have changed and some items are far less expensive than they used to be.

I was the third highest bidder in the original auction and I offered more than 600$. If the seller would have sent me a direct offer I would have confirmed my previous offer.
Bad for him.
