MTG Magic Alternate 4th EDGAR SUMMER 46C 10U 4R on The bay
This isn't my auction but just incase someone wanted to start an attempt at building an Alt 4th set, here is a good place to start esp at 0.01!

it's a blatant ripoff considering 4th alternate are much less valuable than summer ones... It is funny though since collectors of summer cards are probably very cautious from the start and would undoubtedly see the "fine print" there. Maybe someone should buy it and not pay and give the seller a neg review since ebay now doesnt allow sellers to give neg reviews any more heh .

I would, if the words "alternate 4th" didn't come first, and if the description didn't clearly state, in bold no less, that the auction did NOT involve summer. He may or may not have mis-stated the label of "summer" on purpose, but it's clear that he has not taken any measures to obfuscate the contents of the auction.Tha_Gunslinga wrote:So you have no problem with the blatant misrepresentation in the title then? Does "Edgar" refer to Alternate 4th now?

Keyword spamming - including terms that don't refer to your item(s), but will cause your auction to appear in searches for those terms - is against Ebay policies. They rarely close an auction for that reason, but it is against the rules and can be reported.

Then why is EDGAR in the title? What does that have to do with Alternate 4th?ouallada wrote: I would, if the words "alternate 4th" didn't come first, and if the description didn't clearly state, in bold no less, that the auction did NOT involve summer. Your guess is as good as mine.
Alternate 4th was called summer 4th often enough when it was just discovered though: http://www.magiclibrarities.net/forum/v ... 656c219e70
It's easy enough to mistakenly tie the word "edgar" with alt fourth if you have seen it called summer 4th before, and aren't familiar enough with the nomenclature. If you can condone honest mistakes through a lack of understanding, such as calling a chinese card korean, I'm sure you can see how this COULD be an honest mistake. It certainly isn't definite misrepresentation.

I agree that summer can be synonymous with alternate 4th (a judge from local store and a veteran (alpha +) swore that summer = alt 4th) and people could very well make mistakes. HOWEVER, the seller posts the statement : "Note this auction is for 60 ALTERNATE 4TH EDITION CARDS they are NOT Summer Edgar Cards" shows me he knows the difference between the two. If he omitted that line he *may* get away with this being an honest mistake but he probably put that there so whoever gets ripped off cant complain - but then again with new Ebay feedback rules the seller cant touch the buyer through feedbacks even if the buyer decides to not pay for it later.
It is keyword spamming. I have saved searches and it appeared on the daily mail of new posts for "Edgar". If the seller did not include Edgar in the posting, I might have not noticed it.
But I hate it because at one point they make keyword searching useless. Everything is "Rare", "Power 9", "Summer", "Miscut" and "Misprinted", some bearing multiple of those qualities simultaneously...

Yeah the keyword spamming is bad, but they do state
"Note this auction is for 60 ALTERNATE 4TH EDITION CARDS they are NOT Summer Edgar Cards"
So I really dont think they are intentionally trying to mislead, just keyword spamming to get attention/views.
PLUS the fact that they actually have an explanation of what Alternate 4th Edition is.
If someone ignorant enough to still think they are EDGAR even after pictures, description and further writeup , then they really have problems in comprehension and deserve a lesson.
