Do you agree on the estimates that were posted here ?the swiss wrote:You must be a big collector with a great experience........
I see a lot of cards and on Ebay auctions.
R: 1 or 2 MINT, others SP (the most), HP, NM (- or +)
U: Serra Angel, Demonic Tutor, "Blue" Hurricane: 3 or 4 MINT (others see R)
U/C: Rough estimate: 10% MINT, 40% NM (- or +), 50% SP/HP
This is only my personal opinion.
How much for a Summer Edgar Complete Set ?

I do know of one collector whom I have dealt with personally who owns a complete set. If he wants to step forward, by all means... otherwise I won't be saying who. There are several collectors who are close, but that last 10% that they are looking for they have been missing for a very, very, long time.
Thing is, he did it EARLY. And cheaply, back when rares originally were on Troll & Toad for about $150 on up. Remember those days??
I can say, I'm the only person who owns a factory misprint of a Summer card, that I know of anyhow. That's my only bragging rights in this aspect (I own about 50 commons, 25 uncommons, & a couple of rares).

Considering that since this post/poll started in 2008 I have monitored values of most cards increase by typically 3-4x with hotter cards and things like Duals increasing into the 6-9x range. Even simple basic lands that were selling for $30-40 around 2008 when most other commons were $50-60 range, are now in the $300-$500 range.Alphafoil wrote:How much do you think it costs nowadays?
So if we stick with the majority vote of the original poll being $150k-$200k range... I will stick my neck out and say completing a Summer Set today by collecting individual cards would take funding in the order of $750K +/- $200k.
Whoever is still holding onto their sets at this point is sitting pretty. These cards along with other very expensive MTG rarities (i.e. A & B P9 and duals, etc...) have become equivalent to Golden & Silver Age Comics in that collectors who love them and see the value WILL find the money to invest even in cases of prices in the tens of thousands.

Well last time we looked at the cost of a sealed, unsearched booster it had an estimate of around $4000 in cards and at least $4000 premium for rarity.
Not that there have been any recent sales to base the guesses on, but how much do you think one would be worth now, and how much would it take to prize one out of its owner's hands?
The value of the cards may well have gone up, Summer seems as popular as it was when I bought the booster, maybe even more so.
No one has opened up an abandoned warehouse or an old cupboard at Wizards of the Coast and found it stacked full of sealed booster boxes so they are just as rare as they were and there are none available in better condition.
So
1. Rarity
2. Desirability
3. Condition
which are the three main criteria for driving prices are all strong. In addition to which, the price of sealed boosters seems to have gone up across the board, though I would think that Alpha-Summer boosters would be the ones most showing this effect.
