Here's an interesting announcement from the Wizard's site!

Stay tuned for more news on Wednesday!

I have seen it a minute ago. I love the idea and I welcome the trend that they try hard to do things outside of the box.

That's great. I love it.
But where does that leave Homelands? The card set page unofficially lists it under Ice Age. Will we have to move it?

I am at a loss for words. How is this set supposed to continue with the current flow of things? The only way this set could be wedged in like a square peg into a round hole will be to make this set non-Type 2 legal out of the gate. I guess we will need to wait until Wednesday to see how this monkey wrench of a set will fit into everything.

I'm not going to even touch this set if it's not in the old card frames. It just wouldn't be right.

I could care less about the card frames, but hopefully we won't be returning to older art that is sub-par to what we have today. Don't get me wrong, there are a few classic pices, but overall art on the cards has improved. Getting a slap in the face of old art WOTC has been sitting on all these years would just blow. I can only hope for newer art.

I would assume new card frames and new art. Just old mechanics and story-line.

It's gotta be old card frames. They switched to that frame to save money - there are fewer layers in the new card design.

And they say in the arcana that it will be T2 legal.

I've got mixed feelings about it myself - it's neat that they're finally releasing it (to be honest, I didn't even KNOW about it), but I already feel that they put out too many sets a year. Just my opinion. I play limited twice a week, and i don't feel like I've exhausted all of the surprises and play possibilities of one set before it is replaced by the next.

Homelands will have to be slotted in with Fallen Empires and The Dark: Nowhere.

Maybe new blocks for older sets?

I mean, tie in the rest of the sets without blocks?

True, old card frames would be 8) . Plus, old artists (Benson, RKF, Rusu, etc etc would be nice, if very unlikely)

Now, the problem will be if this is a Online only release. I'll be SO disappointed.

I wouldn't be surprised if this just becomes the norm. They release a Core Set every two years during the summer, and it looks like they're going to fill that slot with something else for the 'off' years.

It won't be online only, I'm sure - though they didn't say it would be STANDARD legal, only TOURNAMENT legal. (Though it might be Type 2 legal, like Chronicles was.)

fvzappa: At least they have one more shot to make snow-covered lands constructed-worthy.
