DCI Jaya? (Promo Mystery)

Post by bradleyjx » Sun Aug 12, 2007 10:02 pm

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachme ... ntid=54872
From http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?p=2157758

From the person posting (who it's his friend who got it)...

- Opened from a blister pack at Wal-Mart
- Was "turned around backwards inside the blister on top of the actual pack of cards" (so I'm guessing it was in the blister, outside the pack)
- DCI Promo with Release promo foiling and watermark of a pentagon of symbols (see Underworld Dreams)
- Said the collectors number was something like A1/2007. (I'm guessing "A1 2007" specifically)

It looks like something shop'd. Most people who shop cards and try the whole "pass it off as a fake" thing, tend to take blurry pics and such. Unless he can provide a scan of better quality, then I would call fake on it. In addition, what purpose would it serve to make a promo Jaya with the release style foil-shredding look? I would think efforts would better be made to promote Lorwyn, 10th, or something much older.

I know that the Jaya has some misprint version, mainly the color of her black "dress"
So it's possible that the Jaya foil version has some rare misprint version too.
That's perhaps that ...

This is the official reply of Wiz :

Unfortunately, some larger companies like Wal-Mart will purchase blisters from companies that will repackage them and add or remove cards from the set. In some cases, customers get lucky and will receive an extra card like the Jaya Ballard Promotional card you have received. Other players have reported their packs stripped of rares or in some cases, all the card replaced with cards from another game.

A good rule of thumb is to avoid purchasing Magic cards in cardboard and clear plastic blisters. We only boosters sealed in the regulation foil to our retailers and can only guarantee the quality and card distribution of cards purchased in this way.

The description you gave me of the Jaya Ballard matches up to a promotional card that was released at Time Spiral events. These cards are legal in DCI tournaments as long as the basic card remains legal.

Regards

I've never heared about a Jaya promotional card released at Time Spiral event ...... and you ?

OMG!!! For once I can contribute to the rarities community! :D
I cashed my check today and went to Wal-Mart. I was buying some Halo 3 Mt. Dew Game Fuel and lo and behold, Jaya promo!
I was excited because I could confirm!

I would think so, but you never know card games are not a popular item at wal-marts I dont think.

Ok, what product does it come in at Wal-Mart?
And what's with the star for the expansion symbol?
And most importantly, what do you think of the Game Fuel? I think it tastes like Smarties.

Also, yes the collectors number is indeed A1 2007

There is a blister pack that has 3 Boosters in it, the boosters seem to be of random semi-recent sets.
Mine were Onslaught, Scourge, Saviors (I pulled Siege-Gang and Twincast ^_^)

That same star is on FRUITCAKE ELEMENTAL :D I like it a lot.

And, yeah it does sorta have the aftertaste of eating smarties, fresh from the pack.
Like 2 parts code red, 1 part livewire, add smarties to taste :-P
