New type of misprint--Half-glued cards

Post by Tha_Gunslinga » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:23 pm

I've run across a number of Zendikar cards like this. So far they've all been rares or Mythics. Basically, the glue only came together on part of the card, ranging from maybe 25-75%. Here's an example.

Anyone ever seen anything like this?

I've seen it, but never on finished cards. This should have been picked up way before the cards were printed. It probably means the glue application ran dry in some areas of the sheets when they were first being laminated. Usually this leaves a crease or bubble on the blank sheets (since there is a thickness difference) and is immediately noticed.

It sounds to me like Carta Mundi's QC fell asleep on this one, as they probably had more than a few opportunities to see it in the full sheets. I can understand how it wasn't found once the sheets were cut, as the whole cutting and packaging operations are pretty well automated.

I found such a card some years before in a Legions boster (Nantuko Vigilante). Your card is the second I see.

Yes, during Tempest prerelease we had packs like this at Columbia, Mo. event. I probably foolishly threw all my cards away. I was pretty pissed. Judges made me proxy most of my deck on lands. When you spend that much on a prerelease it really chaps your hide.

if I recall correctly, in some older packs you could find either half of these cards ( not partially separate).

Guess I just don't/didn't open enough packs. I have never seen one in real life and would like one of any kind or rarity as an example.

I saw a Deathtouch Owl (iforget the card's actual name, it's a common owl with Deathtouch) and it was completely unglued. Split in two.

Didn't manage to get it though :/

For me, this is more of an interesting oddity than a misprint.

Had it been a whole Zendikar production like this (using a new kind of paper or glue), which would have been destroyed later on, I would call it some kind of misprint. But not here.

Yeah, I have those too, but I had never seen any that were half together and half apart.
