GERMAN UNCOMMON HOMELANDS CARDS WITH SAME FRONT PRINTED ON BOTH SIDES. REVERSE IN DIRECTION FROM EACH OTHER:
Double-sided printed (likely a printer error) uncut sheet of the magic set Homelands, from 1995, in the German language. Homelands was the last set to be printed on only two sheets (Uncommon and Common), and this is an Uncommon Sheet, which is 5 x 4 for 20 total cards. 8 are U1s - subsequently known as "rares".

I forget exactly how I won this (or perhaps it was a door prize or something) back in the late 1990s, but I believe I picked it up at an event, and I have been the sole owner ever since.

Actual pictures are included - note that there is a significant crease in the second row of cards, so this is definitely not in perfect condition, but considering the age and rarity, it's quite a find. The edges and especially the corners are also a bit frayed due to age/handling.

Would be perfect for the avid MTG collector or player as a gift and especially to frame it as a poster - I would think this is close to one of a kind and would be extremely hard to find. The total size is a bit less than 10" by 17.5".]

The Irini Sengir I have has Irini on both sides. I will try to get some better picture for you of all the cards once things on my end start slowing down.

Hi, yes Brian, myself, and another forum member Bradley (I think he is bradleyxace or something on here) bought these from a WOTC employee who no longer works there. He said these were press checks. I've been told the Chris Rush cards with identical fronts are artist proofs. I cannot confirm this but I've seen several. The others with different fronts are a common sheet with a common sheet upside down on the other side.

I still own one, but it's the inverse of one Brian already posted. Bradley still has a few I believe.

The artist proof story is a common one, and I've been told that before too. Haven't seen anything that confirmed that other than that some of these were given out to artists. Whether they were given out as artist proofs is another story.

I've just spent some time looking at uncut Homelands sheets, and I'm going to have to disagree with some of the things Kieth said here.

At the time he posted, all of the cards that had been shown were from the Uncommon sheet, so the common sheet upside down on a common sheet doesn't hold up. A couple weeks after he posted, a double sided common DID show up in Portuguese.

Looking at all of the cards with two different fronts, Only the Rashka the Slayer/Sengir Autocrat & Castle Sengir/Joven's Tools could have been created by printing a sheet upside down on the back of another sheet.

I don't think this is what actually happened though.

The Giant Oyster/An-Zerrin Ruins, Mammoth Harness/Baki's Curse, & Cemetary Gate Version 1/Aliban's Tower Version 2 could Not have been created by a full sheet being printed upside down on the back of another sheet.
Note: An-Zerrin Ruins, Mammoth Harness, & Baki's Curse only appear on the sheet once each.

Now lets move on to the cards that are the same on both sides. Note: Apocalypse Chime only appears on the sheet once. Ishan's Shade, Spectral Bears, & Dwarven Pony are all on the same row right next to Apocalypse Chime. Hmm.

Several people had said that the cards would need to be in the middle of the sheet in order for both sides to be the same. That isn't exactly true because most of these cards appear on the sheet more than once. However, looking at the uncut sheet, NONE of these (same on both sides) cards would line up with other copies of themselves if a full sheet were printed upside down on the back of a sheet.

ALL of these cards (both with same sides & with different sides) are contained in the top left quadrant of the sheet in a 5 card by 5 card block.
Dave Howell has described in depth that Wizards did not have a machine large enough to do entire sheets in house. (full sheets were printed at Carta Mundi) We can see this to be true by looking at the black and white Revised sheet quadrants in the Rarities section under test prints. The top left quadrant is a 5 card by 5 card block.
I don't think that is a coincidence, we're dealing with the same thing here on these homelands cards.

It appears that the Wizards machine feeds the sheets from the side (left or right), not from the top or bottom. You can tell by which way the cards were flipped when printed.
The Axis is row #3. These 5 cards were in the middle causing them to be printed with themselves on the back.
Ishan's Shade
Apocalypse Chime
Spectral Bears
Dwarven Pony
Root Spider (we haven't seen this one yet, but it's out there somewhere.)

Row #2 was printed with Row #4 upside down on the back.
Sea Troll / Leeches (we haven't seen this one yet, but it's out there somewhere.)
Sea Sprite / An-Havva Constable (we haven't seen this one yet, but it's out there somewhere.)
Rashka the Slayer / Sengir Autocrat
Castle Sengir / Joven's Tools
Giant Oyster / An-Zerrin Ruins

Row #1 was printed with Row #5 upside down on the back.
Truce / Reveka Wizard Savant (we haven't seen this one yet, but it's out there somewhere.)
Eron the Relentless / Eron the Relentless
Chain Stasis / Wizards School (we haven't seen this one yet, but it's out there somewhere.)
Irini Sengir / Irini Sengir
Mammoth Harness / Baki's Curse

Here is a picture of the top left quadrant of a Homelands Uncommon sheet. I cropped off the rest of the sheet to help you visualize how these cards were printed. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

Image

All of these Uncommons are in German. Richard said he knew of 11 Ishan's Shades, so at least that many of each card were printed.

It appears that the Commons were done similarly in Portuguese. The only one of those we've seen so far is a Row #1 / Row # 5 combination, so there's lots more to find. I don't have time to type out the whole list right now.

It looks like there's still quite a few left to find. If you find one, please post a picture here. Good luck getting the complete set. Happy Hunting!
