This is where all the Minty Alpha has disappeared to!

Post by tap4black » Fri Apr 18, 2014 4:45 pm

Finally was pissed off 1 too many times with PSA and converted my entire collection over to Beckett. Process is about 80% complete now and I have posted the nearly 900 pieces I have gotten back so far in their card registry at the link below:

http://registry.beckett.com/set-details ... rd_2295948

I did trade/sell a fair number of pieces to JM or the overall grade would be higher but he made me a few offers I could not refuse! :D

Still have about 100 NM/Mint+ Signed Alpha Rares to send in as well as over 30K uncommon, common and basics to sort thru for more minty pieces!
#2 All Time Finest PSA Alpha Set, GPA of 9.64, now retired and re-graded via Beckett. BGS GPA 9.40 after shipping off several pieces to JM!

Current Alpha Rare count = 1500+!

congrats on a very successful conversion Len.

while my set may currently grade higher, it's certainly thanks to you and my Alpha collection will never match yours for the sheer depth of cards. I'm sure you'll catch back up quickly on the GPA too.

It wouldn't be possible to collect high grade Alpha cards if long-time collectors like yourself hadn't been such careful stewards from the very beginning. It's great that longtime collectors are willing to share some of their carefully hoarded treasures with newer collectors like me, and congrats again.

Does PSA ever retire numbers for cards that are known to have been opened, or does their population report simply become more and more inaccurate over time?

Once I finish my conversion Tim, I plan to let PSA know that the cards associated with my collection are no longer in their holders. What they choose to do with that information is up to them.

My guess is that they ignore the issue and the pop report continues to become more inaccurate.

That's awesome.

Did you have to crack the PSA case first or did you just give the cards, case and all, to Beckett to process?

Amazing collection, tap4black. How do you have so many Alpha cards, did you start playing back then?

And about signed cards, do they grade only artist signed cards, or also cards signed by Richard Garfield?

Actually "Beckett" does not grade the sigs. You get to pay extra for an associated company to authenticate the sig. Then Beckett grades the card. The other company will authenticate Richard's sig.

Len, I too am looking forward to pictures.... Pages of them. Do you have some method of storing these in binders/pages or some such? I guess the cases would work fine if the living room floor is big enough..
