Starter 1999- Question

Post by Mr.C » Tue Apr 22, 2008 7:35 pm

So, I picked up a box recently. Sealed, etc.

- Is it guaranteed to have a Grim Tutor in it?
- How much is the box worth? No store has it for sale. I don't want to crack it if it's a rarity.
- Is the card distribution even, since there are less rares than boosters?

thanks.

You are never guaranteed anything, but odds are very very good you will pull 1. The last box I got was $250, which I thought was a pretty good deal. I pulled a complete set out of it.

I have purchased boxes as low as $192, and have sold them as high as $275.

One time, I opened 4 packs and got 2 Grim Tutors from a box, while a friend opened 4 boxes and got 1 Grim Tutor. He had shit ass luck, but this kind of thing happens. Needless to say I sold the other 32 packs from that box after I got those two Grim's.

On a side note, I found Goblin Settler an extremely hard uncommon to get in packs. I'm not sure what the distribution was like on this card, but I was still needing it after 80+ packs opened. In the end I had to get it separately in an auction of 6 of them (which ended at $51).

With this luck you had at this day you should have opened them all :-P Chris

I pick up Starter 1999 boxes up from a local comic shop for $80 each. I have openned 6 so far and have gotten 8 Grim Tutors. Every box had one and two boxes had 2. I know its not guarenteed, but from my experience openning so much of it, its pretty dang close. I agree with the wierd distribution of Goblin Settler. I have only gotten 5 out of the 6 boxes. I still need 4 more for my page sets.

Out of my experience Ive opened two sealed boxes and they turned out to have a near perfect distribution in both boxes (1 of each rare). I wish I could have opened 8 grim tutors in the same box!

Is this a recent occurrence? Or was this a while ago? As $80 is a truly nice find.

I have one Goblin Settler left if you want it.

What is a page set ? 9 of the same card on a 9 Pocket page ?

Yeah, its a term I coined. Since I became infatuated with Starter 1999 a while back I decided to build a set. Then when I got those boxes I decided to build 9 more sets, and have 9x of each card on each page.

And yes, this is a recent occurance, the last box I got from them at that price was about 4 months ago.

LOL Like the "Bowling Pin" page I have from the Legends Gaseous Form Misprint :-P Your pages are worth a lot more though  Chris
