Shard Phoenix APAC 07/08

Post by equi-nox76 » Tue Oct 21, 2008 10:49 am

Hello everybody,

I recently received an APAC Shard Phoenix, now I have some questions.

I already had 3 of them, so I could compare it with them. While comparing them I established, that 2 of them seem to be fake OR come from other printers. I did not even realize that one of the 3 I had was different (I only got curious because the new one I bought smelled differently :-P ).

The seller (I did lots of business with him so in fact I trust him) of the last one told me he personally got the card this year at a tournament. The last one from those I already had is from 2008 too, the other 2 I bought from players in 2007 when they were released first.

I also showed all 4 of them to 2 friends that are quite familiar with promo's and fakes and they told me that either the 2 Shards from 2008 were printed in a different way OR they are the best fakes they have ever seen.

Here is the difference:
- the cards are thinner and
- the back does not show the normal MTG pattern (under the microscope)

The foiling looks very good, so if you would just SEE the card you would never say it's a fake...
But when you take it out of the perfect fit sleeve you recognize that the card is slightly thinner.

So, does anybody now where the cards were printed? Are there 2 different print runs / printing methods for this card?

Any input is welcome...

THX
Chris

If I would scan the cards you would not see a difference, I would have to scan the backsides of the cards with an extremely good scanner to see the difference, but trust me there IS a difference: one has the normal MTG pattern on the back, the other backside does not have this pattern (saw it under the microscope).

I think there were made scans of different backsides in a post here in another discussion. There you can see what I mean (someone has a link?)

Hay Chris, just take the thinner card and tear it in two to see if there is an inner layer........

NO CHRIS... DON'T DO THAT.. I WAS JUST KIDDING!!!!

Are the thinner cards the ones with the different backs?
