Got no "microscope" on the hand but when I compare the plains 49 and the Tarpan 49 I have the impression that those "49" like hand made seems to be printed...

Think I'll go a laboratory for thoses cards and me I'll take a apointment for a psychiatric room (For me) ....

Got a latest one ... a "Flare" 49..

I really feel that the cards with 49 are a kind of Ice Age "glossy" testing cards.... because the 49 seems to printed in gold on them.
Can't go further without laboratory and several printing specialist
:-D

So I can say (perhaps) as for result :
----------------------------------------------

- Ice Age glossy 49 are testing cards (Perhaps).

- "Touch of Death" seems to be the best example as glossy Ice Age. (For the moment if I check my trucks of Ice age cards) ...

- Got a "Tor Giant' that owns a clearer small part on the backside of the card where I can see more cleary the difference with Ice Age glossy and Ice Age normal card.

So it is Folks !, ](*,)

Now that is really interesting and important historical information.

Alexis, do we have a place on the board where that kind of info is sitckied for reference? Or, will someone have to pick the right search word in the future to find this?

Much historical data seems to fade away into the archives.

Hi Gary

All those valuable infos can only be obtain through the search function, which is a disaster, I really don't have time to put a sticky on so many topics that will need one, or even clean obsolete topics with broken links. Taking care of this website is like a Real full part job.

Find a small serie even a rare "mudslide".
They are totally different if I put them on a table and if I compare with usual Ice.

Alternate 4th has a different dot pattern from regular cards. It is visible under magnification. Here is a 600 DPI scan for comparison.

Notice the little circles on the regular 4th Edition card. The Alternate 4th edition card doesn't have those.

As the others said earlier, I don't think the cards you found have anything to do with Alternate 4th Edition.

You still may have something very interesting though if you found multiple cards with 49 identically printed onto them in gold. Please keep us informed about your research.

If you find any Scaled Wurm or Ashen Ghoul, I may be interested in getting them from you if possible.

I've been thinking about the Ice Age glossies. Ice Age had a bunch of cards that were released early, as "promos" at shows and I believe in one or more of the comic books. These advance cards were definitely a separate printing. I can't remember if they were all glossy. If someone has some of the promo cards isolated, it would be interesting to see if they were all glossy. That would be the most logical explanation other than Carta Mundi using the wrong wear / gloss coat.

Good thinking, but so far, non of the cards he has mentioned were among the promotional Ice Age cards.

Here is that list of where the Ice Age promos could be found. Each contained the listed card and a Norritt...

Pyramid #13 May Balduvian Barbarians

Non-Sport Update Vol.6 #2 March Gaze of Pain

Comic Buyer's Guide #1116 March Word of Undoing

Shadis #18 March Essence Flare

Cards Illustrated #18 April Fylgja

Scrye #7 March/April Dire Wolves

The Duelist #5 April/May Aurochs

Combo #4 April Scaled Wurm

Hero Illustrated #23 April Gorilla Pack

Wizard #45 April Prismatic Ward

Norritt also available in sealed packs of 50 sent to stores to give away.

I have buy a old collection and I have again some glossy Ice Age...

Second time that I found some but twice in my own country.... so Belgium.
At this time it was Carta Mundi... so I'm begin to thinking that Carta Mundi has printed a shoot for Wotc Belgium first and after other countries so.... Different printing series perhaps, so different quality... Glossy first it seems and after normal ones.

1st Distribution Wotc Belgium (of course because Carta Mundi...) = Glossy.
2st Production by series for each european Wotc central distribution....

That's of course a supposition but strange that I find thoses cards in Old Belgium Collector's Lot......

:-\'

Eric

PS : Could someone rememberd me if the Snow-Covered Mountains where only in Preconstructed deck or as well in Boosters?
Got 2 Incredible glossy card in my hand but poor...

Hours and hours of checking.... that was the first Ice Age Starter Deck that was affected for that Glossy effect.
The Rares Glossy seems to be very hard to find...
I don't remember exactly what was supposed to contains the Ice Age Starter decks...
Of course some snow covered land but the rest...
Like Warlord CCG in his time so some "fixed" cards as constructyed deck and after that 5 random cards.... ?
I'm digging in my head but... gosh.... the past .... :-\'

Anyway :

- Thoses cards are not so easy to recoignize like the 4Th Alternate but the Blue color in the word "Magic" of the back side card are more a flashy blue than the standard ones...

- Cards themselves seems to be more thicker.

- Cards more "plastic" type.

And I just find that after 19 years due to 1-2 card randomly found so strange.... How many have passed in my hands I don't know but if I check the Pannel of glossy that I have under my eyes that's few ...

End of investiogation except if I phone tomorrow to Carta Mundi :-D

By the way the black ones are more easy than the other colors....
Does anyone own a strange Necropotence ?

=D>

The Ice Age started decks were random like booster packs, but they had about 20 lands in them.

Preconstructed decks didn't come until later.

Ok Thx Sir Tav !
I remember now....
So in my own classification here of Alternate Ice age seems now logic....

As for resume, those special cards are only issued from Ice Age Starter deck first publishing it seems for Belgium (? Europe) ....

If I remember in my "old past" I have sell Ice Age Starter deck before his distribution on the US ground....

Tav by the way ... do you remember how many rare Ice Age were present in those Starter decks ?

3 ? 4 ? 5 ?
