I am super happy with this policy. I think it upholds faith in the company.

They have chosen to stand by their word over making money. A cheer for WotC.

And in anticipation of a common comment on this subject, IMHO if a player can't enjoy playing Magic with the almost 10K cards that are available they wouldn't be able to enjoy playing Magic in any case.

Here is the important bit:

"Starting in 2011, no cards on the reserved list will be printed in either premium or non-premium form."

Awesome.

That's because FoW wasn't rare :)
Mana Drain has also never been on the list.

Along with Demonic Tutor.

I'd bet on it but my bet is it will be in something like a FTV item.

Really there are a bunch of cards on the list that don't need to be there, specially from Homelands and Legends--reprinting them would be a worthless thing to do.

All in all, this is bad news for the Legacy and Vintage players. At some point, the number of players will hit a "glass ceiling" as Legacy staples (duals, for instance) will be harder to find and too expensive for most to afford (the prices for duals are going through the roof in Europe as we speak).

And no, you cannot play decent games with alternate duals, wastelands, fow and the like.

Imho, the policy's only goal is to cut the increase of Eternal players so they will return to type 2 and type 3 and buy more cards...

People really seem to exaggerate a lot. Legacy is currently more popular than ever and it still has a long way to go before hitting said glass ceiling. There are something like 35,000 players who have ever played a game of eternal magic compared to well over 300,000 of each dual printed. There really isn't going to be a shortage of cards for a very long time. Sure, prices might go up, but you can thank SCG for that.

Even though it is possible that legacy will continue to grow in popularity the fact is that we are a long way from running out of staples and even when we do support for legacy will already be massive. Currently I have more large legacy tournaments within a couple hours driving distance over the course of a year than all other formats combined. There are also 3 stores that I know of within a 45 minute drive that hold weekly legacy events. Compare this to the 1 store that holds extended and 0 that hold type 1 and block.

I am happy to say that the most attended format in Colorado Springs is ... CASUAL!!!!!!!!! A LOT of good ol boys and girls (more girls do casual than all other formats combined) just hooten and holloring, tossing cards and having fun.
