Sealed Foil Sets

Post by Ertai's Familiar » Sat Apr 23, 2011 7:10 pm

How does one acquire Factory Sealed Foil sets? Are these only sold to retailers?

Sealed foil sets come from the same way as Regular sealed sets.
Sealed sets comes fom MTGO redeem.

On MTGO once you got a complet digital set, you can pay in order to exchange digital for physical set (directly shipped at home)

So getting a factory sealed foil set of Mirrodin Block would be very hard. :-(

You can find some ... but yes, it will be hard.
Do you need other sets ? Do you use MTGO ?

I do not use MTGO.

Urza's Destiny (if possible), Darksteel, and Fifth Dawn trying to round out artifact cycle foil set collection.

Redemptions started with Invasion. Finding sealed Mirrodin block sets can be hard, but it is not an impossible task (in fact a sealed foil Darksteel set auctioned like 2-3 weeks ago). If you were seeking sealed IPA foil sets, that might be a different story!

Sets (foil or regular) are sometimes given out as prizes in events organized directly by WotC, so another way of obtaining them is to either win one, or talk to the winner.
Last year a friend of mine won Mirrodin Block (!) foil sets in a side event at a PT (I helped him sell them through ebay).

I see one Darksteel Sealed Foil set went for 270.00.

Is that around what one should go for?

I'm always interested when I see the older sets move around, especially the foil ones. I think some of the really old sets are pretty rare to find sealed, the foil ones especially are quite rare I think.

I don't know if this is what they *should* go for, but the sets I mentioned went for ~160/small and I think ~190/large. I don't know if it's possible to raise in value so much in less than year, so either I had bad luck or somebody overpaid for this Darksteel.

Kaja, the sets you sold for your friend were sealed?

$270 is high for a Darksteel foil set imo, however the fact that it was sealed should increase its value over one that isn't. The winner likely wanted "pack fresh" foils for their edh/cube. If the set wasn't sealed and it ended at $270, then i'd be asking why.

Yes, they were.
Standard white boxes sealed with that WotC foil with their logo all over.
