LOL hope you have better luck than I. Only found one rare you want so far but found 10 more German Renaissance I didn't have and a little pile of French that I have yet to go through (or maybe they are Spanish or Portuguese--I only know they are not Italian).magic-belgium wrote:No problem. You dig for the rares, I'll dig for the Renaissance box

ah ah ah.... tish tish. you made an assumption. You assume I would know the difference between a renaissance card and a 3d/4th edition card. I might not be smart enough to look and see if there was an expansion symbol. Or, as in the case of Italian, was putting a whole bunch of cards in my Italian renaissance set because they had little moons or pillers on them..... doh. Some days it pays to go golfing.magic-belgium wrote:Renaissance was just French, German and Italian, so you should have your answer :-)
You do realize, don't you, that the only way I can tell what language it is (except German) is by the copywright information at the bottom of the card? And at 67, even with 4x glass, I have a H*** of a time reading them. Korean, Japanese and Chinese are so easy to tell apart.

You need to separate The Dark cards from your other Renaissance Italian set (rather small, 62 cards), because the Dark was released in Italian (which was not the case in French or German).
There are tips to distinguish a Spanish card from an Italian one (assuming you can distinguish a French card).
In Italian, you will have things like volare, dello, words ending with ggi...
In Spanish, you will have words ending with as, os, you have the ñ, los, las...
That helps a lot.

I have a chart like that here:
http://www.snazzorama.com/magic/lang/type.html
Recently, I've added some other Magic terms to help disambiguate tricky cases, or to help you figure out what the card is. When I get a chance I'll expand the Asian languages, too. S-Chinese vs T-Chinese are tricky.

The charts that agzz and hiryu have provided really help in figuring out what a card is but, at least for 3d, 4th and renissance, I still read the picture.
I am finding that the copywrite line works quicker than anything to tell me what language the card is.
Alle = German
Tutti i = Italian
los = Spanish
Tous = French
os = Portuguese
I can go through a whole pile of them in no time at all now (red cards can still be a hastle though).

One little exception you should be aware of:mystical_tutor wrote: I am finding that the copywrite line works quicker than anything to tell me what language the card is.
"German Revised BB (94) Islands: French copyright date not German"
