Guru Land MISPRINTS!!! Only know copies to exist.

Post by samsworkshop11 » Sun May 06, 2007 7:27 am

I recently bumped into a collection of foils from merc masque; and saw these Guru lands (11 Island 10 swamp, 10 mountian) that I imediatley picked up. But when I got home I fliped my lid...all of them are missing the Gold Guru Symbol. I've been posting in starcity and wizards forums until magiclibrary (which seems to be the ultimate place of places for pimped out misprints) activated my acct (thanks Ralph). Well one person has seen 3 total misprints of this nature. Lots of people are emailing me wanting thenm and telling me price ranges. Well...we all know the Guru is the basic land to have and it's pricey...but what do you guys think..or heard. Thanks and i'll have some pics in the next post.
any questions samsworkshop11@yahoo

I know of a few that have the symbol on the opposite side of the card but haven't seen any without the symbol at all. Nice find, i know a few big name people that would be interested in them.

The ones with the symbols in the wrong area generally go around $150-180; I'd assume you could get at least that much on these guys, though the fact that you have so many may be a problem.

You went about this the wrong way to be honest. Delete all your posts and threads then put 1 at a time on ebay with a 5 day auction and each time do a different land. It will maximize profits and I garuntee someone will contact you about buying the majority of them.

I was wondering if it was the wrong way. I just wanted to get them out in the open. you know...because if I were to sell one and then sell another...I thought people would say, what is this a new one every few days yada yada yada. So your saying edit all my posts and thread with the pics. including starcity forums, wizards forums, and here.

Here's what i'm wondering will they get picky and say well I want the only one that exists instead there's a handful (31) that exist. Will that determine the value that much. and is it nessessary to delete these post and thread. instead just post one on ebay. then let it sell and wait for contact from them or more people on here.
also what should the starting bid be...high or just a buck to start. thanks guys.

Anyone who wants one will know that they are rare, since they haven't been publicized before. However, given the way cards are made any experienced collector would realize that a small number of others probably exist. It is more likely that at least one or two full sheet (~22 of each per sheet) are around somewhere.

You could advertise them as rare, and that you've never seen them anywhere else. But don't state or imply they are unique. Otherwise you can run into problems when you offer the second copy of any of them. As it is, bidders will know they are rare and bid accordingly. Having said that, I would think that cards with the symbol in the wrong place would probably command a slight premium over cards with no stamp at all.

very well stated hammr. but not more expensive than these. I've seen a whole deck with backwards stamps. Still not many of those as well. but... Check this out guys and If you want info on the buyer let me know in a PM. He's already paypal it.

I have been trying to break ground on these for a while. So now is the time for news. 1st off. 3 HAVE BEEN SOLD. for $800. I've set the bar high and can now officially give them a Value of $275 each. (They can only go higher I suppose from here)
2nd. I'm working on a huge deal for all of them to one collector. I have to let others know if they want to get involved; we're looking at great vintage stuff and cash (still talking everything out)
3rd I might put one on ebay to see if it rockets...but no matter what the 275.00 is a cash value price now. 4th I have only 28 available now.
Thanks guys for all the help. I'll still be posting much more. and i'm looking at all the lists. please inquire your offers now that i've established a price. and/or type 1 goodies.

Guru islands

Post by silver.paladin » Mon May 07, 2007 11:38 pm

Just a question - perhaps I am forgetting something - but wasn't there a lot of islands that did not have the Guru symbol? I have 3 or 4 of these around here somewhere, but do not know where they are at this time. But I am pretty sure that these are no stamps. Are these islands not the same kind of cards being mentioned in this thread?

edit: My apologies, it was the Urza's Saga island that was missing the symbol. Just located one now. At least I was correct about it being an island missing a symbol! :-*)

edit 2: If those cards are stolen, then they are worthless and should be returned to the rightful owner. If they have been lawfully obtained, then you might as well get as much as you can. But no matter what, stolen property should have the thief executed no matter what was stolen - beautiful artwork, or colored cardboard.

Somone at my local store has like 4 of these that he bought off somebody at a prerelease for around $30 each ($40 for the island). Of course, the kid he bought them from probably had no clue they were special. Then again, some people don't care about misprints.

OK...I've called over 10 of the largest dealers that I could locate and psa as well as beckett. Sent pics to most of them and noone has ever seen these. including here. Beckett price guide as well as any Google or yahoo searches do not have these anywhere. Wizards old Guru site with pics and questions. There is nothing about a non stamped card. Plus the collection in which it was received was in 1999 and were somehow stolen or sold from the warehouse.
the collection was 3 sets or more of MMasque foils as well as an uncut sheet (that was professionally cut like ballcards) and the Guru's in the mix of all the foils or 1999 MM.

what are you canadians trying to do...your stating something false...hope I put on ebay and all 3000 forum members listen to what you said. And you have them with no pics...then tomorrow you post some CROPPED up fake pics. and then quoting pricing with the words "like" in there.
you sound fishy.

A card is as rare as its perception. If no one knows about it, quite often no one is looking. Once the word gets out, you might be surprised at how many come out of the woodworks.

Like I said before, this type of error typically occurs in full sheet quantities (full sheets managed to bypass the stage where the symbol was applied). And since these land sheets are normally 11 cards wide by 11 or 12 cards long, these cards should be available in multiples of 26 to 29 each. There might only be a single sheet worth, or there might be a few, or even a few dozen. Since many casual players and collectors don't put any importance toward guru lands, to them it might be just another land.

This is not to diminish your find. I am sure that there are many error collectors who will want one. How much they pay is another question. In a way I hope they do spend $275 per card, as that could set a wonderful floor for my Pokemon-backed Magic cards. As far as I know I have the only known examples, but I keep expecting more to eventually surface.

P.S. You might want to be careful about bad-mouthing long-time forum members. Just because this site doesn't show your errors doesn't mean they don't exist in quantities larger than what you have. It just means such cards aren't the focus of this site. And remember that members drawn to this site include the biggest dealers and most advanced Magic collectors around. YOU ARE THE NEWBIE here. And you are apparantly the one most interested in the money.

A few years ago many forum members already knew of alt 4th's existence, but there wasn't anything definitive on the site about them. We had newbies to this site proclaiming that there were less than 60 boxes worldwide of Alternate 4th cards. They even had a detailed story about the production and destruction, and how the few boxes were saved. A total of 60 boxes would have made alt. 4th almost as rare as Summer Magic. That story immediately propeled boxes of alt 4th to well over $1,000 each. But as more collectors started looking for the cards it became apparant that the story was a hoax, and that the cards were more plentiful than claimed. They still command a premium over regular 4th edition cards, but they aren't the super-rare (and super-valuable) item the newbies claimed.

P.S.S. You might want to reconsider at least one of your claims. You have admitted to purchasing goods that you knew were stolen. If the cards are worth $275 each, that means you are admitting to participation as a fence in a major theft, which last I knew was a felony. You might have done so to lend legitimacy to your claim regarding the error cards, but it could have unintended consequences.

Hi Members.
I have to admit that I have a good laugh at this topic,it's not everyday that admitted stolen Rarities are offered on this Forum,I would like that the original owner step in....That will be fun =D>
Well,as a Collector and knowing that a Minimum of 31 exist, and that on top, they are stolen,I really do not value them 275$....Tourist Price for Rarities Members ;-D

Just thought I'd share my personal opinion (obviously no offense intended to anyone)

No matter how rare these are they suck as misprints... I mean, M Fillers, textless cards or double-stamped and Wyvern or Harry Potter or Pokemon backed cards LOOK cool, whereas I can't see any real "pimp-factor" in showing off a GURU land without its symbol... the vast majority of people wouldn't even notice unless you pointed it out to them :-(

I have paid big money for several misprints in the past, but really can't force myself into offering for these.
