Some random occurances

Post by Gryfalia » Wed Dec 03, 2008 2:33 am

Ok, as many people know, I run a store (general non-computer game store, but obviously I deal with a lot of Magic since I know it well) in Illinois.

I have a gentlemen who works for a printing company come in from time to time, bringing me boxes full of demo crap (for lack of a better term) that companies send him, or stuff that his company printed.

Today he brings in 2 banker's boxes full of various games magazines. We're talking Sideboards from PT Mainz/Chicago era, Duelist 2 and later, Shadis, some french stuff (no magazines I know yet, but one that contains a promo booster pack in French). Wow, lots of Lotus Noir.

Anyone out there collecting such things and have a list of what they are looking for?

If you come up with a list let me know. I've tried to get copies of everything that came out in the early years, but don't really know what I don't have. I'll check and see what I need from the more common offerings.

Sorry, all the Lotus Noir copies were much later in the game, early 50s mostly.

Are you sure number 1 was ever sealed? I don't recall that being the case.

Actually the first few were not sealed before distribution. Some dealers seal mag. on their own.

No. Issue 1 was not sealed.

Now that I think about it, I have 10 issue #2 (unsealed). If anyone wants one drop me a post and we will work out something--I, at least, need to get shipping expenses. It has a very interesting price list in it for magic cards that were hot at the time.
No I won't tell you more--except that the Lotus cost less then 3 of the Moxes.
Also how to build the ultimate Rukh Egg deck.

The best thing, though, is the Quinton Hoover Centerfold......

Ok, here's a list of what I have:

Issue 2 - 10 all not bagged
Issue 3 - 4 non-bagged (2 that have the Nalathni Dragon)
2 bagged
Issue 4 - 2 No Bag
Issue 8 - 1 No Bag, 1 Bagged

Vol 3, Issue 3- 1 No Bag

Vol 4:
I have 1 of each of Volume 4 (there were 6 that year). All are unbagged except Issue 5.

Vol 5:
1 and 10 I have unbagged
2 through 7, and 11, 12 I have bagged (but I'm keeping 12, since it has a Saga booster in it)

Vol 6:
1-10 (except 7) are all sealed
7 is unsealed

Sideboard Magazines:
LA 1 - I have 2 but I'm keeping them, because my Pro Tour appearance is in it..;-)

Dec '96, Atlanta - 8
Feb '97, Dallas - 2

Here they switch to just newspaper style:
Dex '97, Chicago - 3
Jan '98, Mainz - 2
Feb '98, #11 - 3
April '98, #13 - 4

Top Deck Magazines:
Feb '00 - Dec '00 1 of each Sealed. (well, Feb isn't). Will probably keep for the boosters inside
Jan and Feb -01 - 1 of each Sealed

And the last thing, that I am sooo keeping, is the 1993 Wizards of the Coast catalog (like the ones they send out now, but made from normal paper and pretty low-cost) with the new game for sale, Magic the Gathering. Never seen it before and I love it!
