Quest about artist proofs availability for poss angel projec

I am thinking of collecting an artist proof per Angel card in US version of magic and have a few questions before diving in..

1. Can artist proofs be made upon request? I read there arent that many made but if more could be made then collecting them would be easier...

2. When did the artist proofs start - alpha? If so are there many people even with alpha proofs and would those be as much as the card?

3. If a card with same pic gets reprinted like Serra angel for example, are there actually artist proof of the same card for different editions?

4. how do the experts here think the difficulty of this project will be like?

1. No for each printing there is only 50 AP's made per card.
2. AP's where first issued during CE & ICE printings. The first AP's are square cut like CE & ICE but with the white back.
3. Yes every time a card is reprinted there is a AP so Serra Angel exists in the "Beta" CE proof, Unlimited, Revised, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, M10, Anthologies & maybe the ones given with MM boxes.
4. It would be hard but not as hard as collecting an AP of every Angel from every printing.

thanks for answer. I am actually thinking of collecting AP for every English angel ever printed.. So if there are 5 serras with same pic i want one per edition/print.. Is CE collector's edition ? So AP started in beta? or unlimited? I have the collector edition serra but it has regular background (square cut though)?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no unlimited artist proofs.

As for non-english artist proofs, these only exist for the following sets:

Italian Revised WB (could be 4th, I'm not certain as I have not seen cards such as duals, etc for these)

Chinese 4th Ed BB
Japanese 4th Ed BB

French Ice Age
Italian Ice Age
Portuguese Ice Age
Spanish Ice Age

So in terms of artist proofs, you would only be missing ~7 if you decided to add foreign proofs to your search (3 Serra Angels, 4 Seraph).

Were proofs released for Anthologies? I did not think they made them for the boxsets: Anthologies, Battle Royale, Beatdown, Deckmasters.

As for feasibility of the project, it will certainly be difficult, but that's half the fun of collecting. Keep in mind the "beta" Serra proof will probably run you >$250, and that's if you can find one.

There is also an Exalted Angel proof for the Judge promo. Don't know of any other promo Angel proofs, but you will likely want to add that one to the list. It will run you >$75 likely.

The Exalted Angel AP's were $100 each and then he jacked them to $150. From what I've heard he sold out shortly after I picked up 5 from him. I know of 2 others in private collectors hands I doubt I'd sell one from my collection unless I get a considerable amount.

Here's the scan of the DCI promo Exalted's

The backs are blank except one which Rob took the time to draw a sketch on for me.

Beatdown artist proofs do exist. I own a couple of them including a Kird Ape. I have some of the Italian fwb ones. The date on the card is 1995, but I'm not sure which printing are they from.

Shuler still have the Serra Angel CE proof, and he was asking $200 for it. That was during one of the Regionals in 2009.

That's interesting that he wants that much for it because he sold me a Demonic Tutor CE for $10.

And there is always the possibility that the artist did not receive the APs at all.

Especially in case of artists that live outside US, APs get stuck in the customs and never reach the artists. I do not know if you would come across any such Angel Artist Proofs, but may happen.

I am in contact with over 50 artists, but there has been several artists that I failed to contact despite all my efforts. And some would never sell Artist Proofs except for events they attend.

If you need any help for a certain artist or AP, feel free to send me a PM and I will help if I can.

How could I forget about the Shivan page. Good resource for such questions. Glad you clarified the 3rd/4th wb Italian AP question, I was unsure.
