Korean Sealed Product

Hello Members,
After some discussion on another forum I am curious as to individual’s thoughts on the current prices for sealed Korean product.

I was wow'd when a member told me at a recent BoM a few Tempest Starter Boxes went for 700.00 Euro each. Most of the sealed Tempest product I bought was before the Wasteland price spike however as you typically only get one per box (different for Starter Boxes?). I do not see how or why it should be valued that high. Is this really the trend we are looking at for the future?

Any suggestions/comments are welcome. I will start out listing what I have paid and the approximate date of purchase.

700 Euros for a sealed box of that Tempest seems..nuts.. But it's been some time since I picked any up myself, so I dunno for sure..

That was my argument as well. You rarely make money opening sealed product and even with Wasteland being so high you still won't get close to that.

It is nuts and quite frankly seems silly.

It is completely insane to pay that much, but I can confirm it sold for that price and was opened. No wastelands came out of it either. Pretty big waste of money IMO.

this seems ridiculously under priced considering vampiric tutor and natural order + all the random small goodies like necromancy, elephant grass, city of solitude, quirion rager, impulse, puzzle box and so on ...

You're not guaranteed any of those rares, though. 50 rares, 36 packs.

I told him the same thing on The Source in regards to Tempest boxes.

A Tempest box I opened was Aluren, Humility, Meditate, Wasteland, Perish, 2 Ancient Tomb, and 3 Lotus Petal.

Anyone want to give me 700.00 Euros for that (which I consider a good box pull)?

@Andrew: That sucks he didn't even get one Wasteland.

@Oren: Visions box is on par IMHO and I feel as though I would be hard pressed to sell most commons from Visions considering many are staples in corner cases like Elephant Grass and Impulse is out classed by pretty much everything.

Maybe I'm just jaded. I enjoy collecting Korean and don't mind paying top dollar for Mint Korean stuff. However I'd really like to not see this go the way of Japanese and get priced out of the ball park for no legitimate reason other than greed and ignorance.

well - you told me what ? that you will not hit enough for the display to repay itself ?... i never said that ripping a 700€ box is reasonable in any way because i know that even the best possible pull would result in a loss. i guess about 400€ would be a by far more reasonable price at the moment but as it was a friend of mine who sold the boxes i will not complain that he got 300€ more.

with some time i am very sure you will be able to sell off all the visions commons for at least some money which should sum up to quite something. anyway $120 for a box where you can very easily get $120 out of it is under priced imo. i do not remember many displays which are able to repay itself that easy.

i guess the core of the discussion on the source was the pricing of a korean urzas saga display. you said $500 bucks ?! this is just so far off anything i can imagine ...

Another member mentioned 120.00 Euros for 1 Korean US booster pack. Really? No.

Yes I think 500-600.00 would be fair. Yeah there are a lot of good cards in the set. Good luck getting a Karn, Tolarian, Yawgmoth's, Spiral, and Exploration as well as a few Keys and Lackeys to start to break even in a 350 card set.

of cause not ... but i always thought sealed product prices are made up by kind of rareness factor + a sum up of the best possible rare pull.

2 more things ...
regarding visions - you got a 72/50 chance to pull one of the 2 top rares out of the visions box which is obviously not that bad because the box will instantly repay itself.

saga contains so much more playables than you mentioned ... thinking of cradle, sanctum, enchantress, back to basics, gilded drake, ill gotten gains, phyrexian tower, show and tell, smokestack, sneak attack and some smaller stuff which are all worth at least some money ... i can really not see one of the boxes sell for anything below $1000 ...
