Alt 4th sealed starter

Post by manaman22 » Fri Dec 14, 2012 2:15 am

Per the thread from a few years ago, a sealed Alt 4th starter was in the ~$25-30 range.

Now that it's a few years later, what should l look to pay for one to go with my set? I haven't seen any pass through ebay lately, but I want to have an idea of what to expect when I do. Thanks in advance.

Probably closer to $40, but they are hard to find.

I probably have a few hanging around. If you have no luck on eBay or locally just let me know and I will have a look for you.

Mark

Edit: just found my records, 3 auctions from a Dutch seller, all finishing on 13th Feb 2010.

$41.72
$41.72
$36.84

No idea of postage costs though.

I also bought 3 Urza Saga Starters at the same time, $21.79 each!

Mark,

Thanks for the info. I generally prefer to source locally so I can be sure of the condition and what not, but when I give up on that, I'll drop you a line.

This subject came up on MOTL. Last couple I bought (this year) were less than $30, but they are getting scarcer. Over the next year I would expect boxes at $300 - $350, and individual starters at $40, will likely be the norm unless another stash is unleashed on the market.

The problem with alt 4th value was that every time prices on unopened product increased, another bunch of starter boxes suddenly materialized. Even now, as SCG increases prices to new highs on individual cards (a full set at by-the-card prices is now ~ $1800), they also have been getting more of the tougher (i.e. always out-of-stock) cards. In the last few weeks I got a bunch of notifications about cards again being in stock.

I managed to buy a bunch I needed, which would make me think prices should drop. But then SCG didn't get everything I needed, so maybe there isn't abunch more product out there, and maybe prices will hold. Once we know (if ever) that the stashes of unopened product are gone, then prices will probably start an orderly climb.

Same here! I only wanted one for my collection but I set up my snipes and let them run!

Maybe we can trade!

I was trying to upgrade one of my my Gaea's Liege copies. I also wanted to upgrade one of my Lord of the Pit cards, but someone beat me to the one SCG offered!

If your spare Lord of the Pit is NM/M (like most SCG cards are when they claim they are), maybe we can do a 2 for 1 trade, so long as you can live with slightly less than perfect. I haven't had time to open my SCG packages, but will do so tomorrow to confirm condition.

I've been getting better from SCG's "SP" than ABU's NM...
