A/B/U print sheets

Post by Crystal_Lotus » Mon Mar 21, 2005 5:23 am

Can anyone confirm if the Alpha print sheets were 10x10, 10x11, or 11x11???

Also, Beta and Unlimited???

Thanks,

Chris

How would you be able to tell the difference between an alpha and beta sheet without the corners to guide you?

I would imagine they are marked around the edges.  Additionally, there are differences (Alpha had less varieties of lands, one rare and one common were left out, some art is minorly different)

All sets in question have been printed on 11x11 sheets. WotC started to switch to 10x11 sheets with Alliances.

someone please double check this math, but if it is correct, here are the probabilities of pulling a basic land in any given slot in either Alpha or Beta...

basic land as…

ALPHA BOOSTER --- 178.51 total basic lands

rare---4.132%
avg of 1.49 per box

unc---21.488%
avg of 23.21 per box

com---38.843%
avg of 153.82 per box

ALPHA STARTER --- 203.55 total basic lands

rare---4.132%
avg of 0.83 per box

unc---21.488%
avg of 27.93 per box

com---38.843%
avg of 174.79 per box

BETA BOOSTER --- 174.94 total basic lands

rare---3.306%
avg of 1.19 per box

unc---21.488%
avg of 23.21 per box

com---38.017%
avg of 150.55 per box

BETA STARTER --- 199.67 total basic lands

rare---3.306%
avg of 0.66 per box

unc---21.488%
avg of 27.93 per box

com---38.017%
avg of 171.07 per box

what would wotc do if someone won the pro tour with an oversized deck?  When they print the championship deck it would screw em up.  Muahahaha  [smiley=evil.gif]
I can't believe I ate the whole thing

To tell the difference between Alpha and Beta sheets, for the most part you would just look for the misprints that were fixed in Beta, plus the addition of more lands..

Thanks.  Those two take care of the rare and common sheets, now what about the uncommon sheet?  Is there a card missing there?

First text difference I found was in Basalt Monolith:

Alpha:
Tap to add 3 colorless mana to your mana pool. Does not untap as normal during untap phase, but can be untapped at any time for 3 mana. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.

Beta:
Tap to add 3 colorless mana to your mana pool. Does not untap as normal during untap phase; spend {3} to untap. Tapping this artifact can be played as an interrupt.

Edit: Otherwise, if you see one of these lands, it's Beta:

yer jerkoff response warrants this..

I will use COMMON sense and assume they were kept together (seriously, if you had both sets, you'd play mix and match?)

but you could go with what gryf said and scan for fixed misprints..

some of us here use brainpower.. [smiley=idea.gif] marvel idea isnt it?
