Are the cards in the Rivals quick start set cards different? (standard 1995 version, obviously the 1996 version is)
Maybe I'm just getting paranoid... ;-)
I opened one such box in the hope they were 1996. Unfortunately they were standard 4ed 1995 cards. However, I did notice that ALL of them had a mark on the back that I haven't seen before or since. I scanned in the cardback and drew a circle around the mark.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? In other words; anyone out there who can check their cards from a Rivals box whether or not they also have this marking.

Whoa! Right...
That means that those cards are unique as well...making 4ed even harder to collect now with FIVE DIFFERENT VERSIONS!!
4ED BREAKDOWN:
1994 preview (just 2 cards)
1995 regular
1995 USA mirror (special coating)
1995 Rivals (mark on back)
1996 Rivals

I just double-checked my cards. Can someone here who has an opened box check the following cars:
- Island (5 clouds) [not found?]
- Phantom Monster [no mark]

That explains "Phantom Monster", as it doesn't exist in the set but does in the 1996 version. Whereas the other 'extra' cards in the 1996 version simply appear more often.
However, I don't see any * next to any Island. I have a full basic land set with 1996 (all 15 lands). But could only find 14 lands for the 1995 set (with mark on back). I am missing the Island (5 clouds version).
I assume that basic lands in the set are fixed, e.g. particular art on defined positions in each deck. If not it could happen that I "miss" a version, just by being unlucky. But if so (and I believe this is the case) I either "miss" this Island by means of packaging error OR that Island doesn't exist (and a * should be added in that list) OR that land doesn't have the mark.
Can anyone verify any of this?

Hi.
The Island with the 5 Clouds doesn't exist in Rivals US.

Right, hmmm... so a * is missing from that page you linked. Or (just realised) its been replaced with the 5 clouds version in the 1996 box version.
In any case my collection is correct and so is my understanding of this box set.
Many thanks for all the help by everyone on this thread.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, can someone post a scan/image of a '95 US Rivals card back identifying the 'mark' that is visible.
