FOIL Textless Lightning Bolt misprint

Post by ende73 » Thu Feb 28, 2013 3:50 pm

Hello,

following some interest that people have in this card I must confess that I am sadly losing contact with the MTG world and am not totally updated on how much the "pimp-your-decks" factor is affecting the misprints market recently.

How much do you reckon this card is worth today (the unsigned one)?

I posted a similar Topic on another popular Forum so that maybe we can get some discussions going (e.g. how many of these are known to exist).

Thanks for your wise inputs,
ende73

What is misprinted with that textless lightning bolt ? Is there anything different to other textless lightning bolts ?

The misprint is it being textless which is kind of a misnomer it's a test print I believe.
BGS 9+ Alpha set 282/295 (97.29%) Avg 9.41
BGS 9.5+ Beta set 283/302 (93.71%) Avg 9.58
BGS 9.5+ Arabian set 35/92 (38.04%) Avg 9.62
BGS 9.5+ Antiquities set 82/100 (82%) Avg 9.64
BGS 9.5+ Legends set 279/310 (90.00%) Avg 9.61

I used that term to distinguish it from the standard textless bolts that now exist. It is indeed probably a test print.

speaking of which, i dont want to highjack this thread, if anyone got info he can send me a PM to my question:

did you ever witness one of the textless foils from urzas saga+bolt being pulled from japanese destiny packs? or do you know somebody that did?

Hello Ende,

I believe that the approximation of 2000$ (or 1.5k€) would be a reasonable buy price and you might be able to get 2.5k$ out of this if people go bidding crazy.

I promised my wife that I will not go over 1k€ on these, so that sets my level on these. I will buy one (normal corners) if somebody sells me on that price, but will not go above that. 8-[

With kind regards,

My interest would be, what is the difference between signed/unsigned

I would think the Garfield signature really hurts the value of the signed one. Sort of negates the whole clean textless aspect of the card :(

Same opinion, i was asking, because signatures can be undone ;-)

on old foils you have to be very lucky to erase the signature completely, its not so easy, but i think possible with patience. and then you have to hope that the artist didnt press the pen too hard on the card because then you´ll still see the imprint after the sig has been removed.
and on cards that have very few text on them you have to do an even better job of removing them.

anyway, i dont know the process but i have heard lately that it is possible to remove sigs from old foils 100%

For future reference, a deal was finalized and the card was sold for US$ 3,000 (the unsigned one).
